Scope and Contents: The Office of Facilities Planning and Construction record group is divided into three series: TOPICAL FILES, SPECIFIC PROJECTS, and SLIDES.
The TOPICAL FILES series includes records from the Facilities Planning Committee from 1986 through 1987. Other committee records include the Joint Capital Outlay Subcommittee from 1973 through 1974, the Performing Arts Center Study Committee from 1973 through 1975, and the University Center Planning Committee in 1972. There are some Executive Committee minutes for the year 1972. Researchers should consult the University of Michigan-Dearborn Chancellor's Office record group for a more complete run of these records. There are also several development plans including two from 1973 and 1990. Development plans created by architectural firms have been included in this record group.
Howard Conlon, who was head of the Office of Planning and Construction, was also a professor in the Division of Engineering. The researcher will find material under the heading "Committees" relating to the Division of Engineering during Conlon's tenure at University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The SPECIFIC PROJECTS series includes records relating to the construction of the Classroom Administration Building (CAB), the Classroom Office Building (COB), the Library, the Physical Education and Recreation Complex, Physics Laboratory, and the Student Services Building. The records are spotty, however.
The SLIDES series dating from 1971 through 1978 includes images of the Library and Learning Resource Center and the University Mall in various stages of construction. Lighting fixtures, views of campus, and the Rouge River are also included. Researchers will find many slides of out-of-state campuses that were used to help plan future projects for the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
