The Fair Lane record group is divided into two series: TOPICAL FILES and PUBLICATIONS.
The TOPICAL FILES (boxes 1, 3-7) series includes information describing the special events held at the Fair Lane mansion, such as the "Evenings at Fair Lane" from 1969 through 1973; and the "Fair Lane Festival" in 1967. Henry Ford Days, celebrations of Henry Ford's Birthday, and the Dinner Dance fundraiser are also documented into the 1990's. Also documented are the media contacts, press releases, radio and print ads, and other efforts to publicize the property and encourage visitors. The arrangement of boxes 3-7 is as received. There is one folder of development activities regarding the restoration of the mansion. Other information about the restoration is in the estate archives, and at the Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford.
The PUBLICATIONS (box 2) series includes brochures describing Fair Lane, its gardens and its use by the University of Michigan-Dearborn as a conference center. The single bulletin describes Fair Lane's use by the Ford Motor Company as an archive, prior to the gift of the Henry Ford mansion and estate to create the University of Michigan-Dearborn. 'Henry Ford's Fair Lane' is an undated history giving further details of the history of the mansion, which was built from 1914-1915. There are two newsletter titles in this series. The first the 'Fair Lane Guide Newsletter', a publication for the docents of the mansion. The two issues are from 1979 and 1980. The second newsletter is the 'Restoration Chronicle', with issues from 1985 to 1988, which describes the long process of continuing renovation. This series also includes programs describing various events which took place at Fair Lane, and a 1975 prospectus detailing the need for complete renovation and the possible uses of the mansion by the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
