Historical Note: Terry Gallagher, University Relations, obtained printed copies of two speeches given at the December 16, 2007 commencement. Michael Brennan, of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, gave a speech to the graduates of Management and Engineering. Charles Tilly, professor of Sociology, at Columbia University, gave a speech called “Awards and Credit,” to the graduates of CASL and Education. Tilly had previously taught at University of Michigan, and died of lymphoma a few months after his visit to Michigan. The University does not own the copyright.
