The Google Books Library Project is finally here! Part of the Mardigian Library's collection is heading off to be digitized by Google through their highly secretive process. For the next five to six months, 10,000 to 15,000 books and bound journals will be off the library's shelves at any given time. An item is typically off the shelf for three weeks; during this time its status in the library catalog will be "Out for Scanning."
If you need a book or bound journal that has been sent for digitization, you can:
1) request the title through
MeLCat
2) request the title through traditional
interlibrary loan
3) check the library catalog periodically to see if the item's status has changed to "Available"
NOTE: Do not place a hold on a title that is out for processing. Items returned by Google will not trigger hold notices.
We only send titles that have not already been digitized by other libraries in the project; we expect about 25% of our books and bound journals will be sent for processing. We are excited about being included in the Google Books Library Project, and we thank all the librarians and staff members on the Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses who are helping us with the project.
If you have questions, please contact one of our staff members working on the project:
