Prof. Mingyan Liu from the University of Michigan will be the guest speaker at the CIS Seminar on Thursday, December 1. Prof. Liu’s presentation will be “Online Learning in Dynamic Spectrum Access: Restless Bandits, Equilibrium, and Social Optimality”. And, Dr. Gregory Ducette from NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science will be the guest speaker at the Natural Sciences Colloquium on Friday, December 2. Dr. Ducette’s presentation will be “Sentinel & Sensors for Marine Algal Toxins-A Tale of Right Whales & Underwater Robots”. See more of Prof. Liu’s work or Dr. Ducette’s work in the Scopus database. The Mardigian Library will be open 24 hours a day for finals study beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12 through 11:45 p.m. on Monday, December 19.
Between midnight and 8:00 a.m., only University of Michigan students can enter the library and will be required to show their MCards.
Extra security personnel will be on site to monitor activity throughout the building. While the building will remain open, library services will be limited during the extra hours. All four floors of the library and the computers by the Library Research Center will be available for use, and it will also be possible to check out materials. Financial transactions, guest printing, and research assistance will not be available during extended hours.

The Clothesline Project Is again on display in the stairwell of the library between the first and second floors. The UM-Dearborn portion of the project - on display from November 17th to 30th - includes T-shirts from Professor Lora Lempert’s Family Violence class and are created as a personal tribute to a woman who has been victimized by violence. More information about The Clothesline Project can be found at www.clotheslineproject.org/. As a Fullbright Scholar, Professor Lempert introduced The Clothesline Project to South Africa. Join us as auto historian Joseph P. Cabadas delves into the archive of The Henry Ford in Dearborn. He will offer a look into the history of the design and production process that led to the 1940 Ford. Some of the rare photos and illustrations (from the archive and from photographers around the country) that marvelously illustrate the iconic automobile in his book will be on display.

Janice Bluestein Longone Culinary Archive Resource Guides
The Culinary Archive includes material on numerous aspects of food and drink, cooking and dining, and housekeeping and domestic life in America, from the 16th century to the present, with the greatest concentration in the 19th through mid-20th century. The resource guides suggest possible research topics and provide a path into the materials on subjects such as domestic service and the "servant problem", food and drink merchandizing, and American diet reform movements.

On November 8, Dr. Paul Spickard from the University of California Santa Barbara will be presenting "War on Terror, War on Immigrants: Race, Religion, and Membership in America since September 11, 2011" as part of CASL's Fall semester series of events commemorating the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
The Mardigian Library has several books in our collection by Dr. Spickard.
