Kathy,
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad that you have experienced an improved environment for studying.

We are still working on improving signs and investigating other options for noise control. We will continue to monitor the situation and make policy and procedural changes as necessary.
Sincerely,
Thank you for the steps you've taken to reduce the level of noise at the library. I did notice a decrease in the noise level this past week, when, after a long absence from your library, due to the excessive noice level, I finally returned. That is the one thing your survey did not address. How many people had to seek out other places to study because the library their tuition supports was not a feasible place to study. It has improved. Thanks so much for taking steps to correct the problem. Now the people who can study with or with noise AND the people who require a quieter, traditional library setting can be accomodated.

Academic success is dictated by one's willingness, hard work, and dedication to his/her academics.
The current library policies inhibit/discourage - rather than facilitate - any such willingness, hard work, and/or dedication.
Therefore, CHANGE THE DAMN POLICIES ALREADY!

High schoolers shouldnt be able to come to our library. All they do is stare and make comments about "cute boys". They cannot handle the environment, so I think they should be banished. Most of the noise is caused by them. Furthermore, WE pay for the use of the libraries resources, they do not.

I avoid the library especially on the weekends. It has become a place to socialize not study. When participating in groups I always suggest going somewhere else to study. It is very distracting, and at times offensive.

It's pretty quiet in the library but often times there are non UM-D students on the 2nd floor. I am TIRED of people coming up to me asking, "Hi, do you have a user name we can use to log onto the Internet?" Of course I refuse them, but why are non UM-D students in our library behaving that way? It's one thing to have guests using the library's facilities, but it's another when they are bothering students that pay tuition to eventually receive the free wireless services . Some of these non students are quiet... but there are others that visit frequently and cause noise when I'm trying to study. I don't see a reason for why my friends and I should move to another floor or building because of disruption caused by non UM-D students.
