Library Notices Sent via e-mail
- All library notifications are sent to campus
e-mail addresses.
- If you use a non-UM-Dearborn e-mail address, you should set
your UM-Dearborn e-mail to be forwarded to your other address. Contact
the ITS help desk in the Computer Wing for more information
(313-593-HELP or helpdesk@umd.umich.edu) for more information
on forwarding e-mail.
- All bills or final notices for lost or overdue materials
will be printed and sent via the U.S. Postal Service or
campus delivered mail.
- Patron information is confidential in compliance with the library's
User Privacy Policy.
Fines and Fees Policies
- Fines and fees are non-refundable.
- If you have questions about fines or fees, contact the Circulation
Desk (313-593-5559) prior to payment.
- A Banner hold will be placed if you owe more than $5.00.
- The library does not accept credit card payments over
the phone.
Paying in Person
- Fines and fees may be paid in person at the Circulation
Desk by cash, personal check, or credit card.
- The library does not accept cashiers checks, money orders, or travelers checks.
- The library accepts Discover, MasterCard, and Visa credit
cards.
Paying Online
- Log into your library account.
- Click on the “unpaid fines and bills” link to view amount owed.
- In the Online Fine Payment box, type your 8-digit UMID number and the amount owed:

- Click the "pay online" button.
- Enter your credit card information.
- View/print payment confirmation and receipt (available on screen and via e-mail).
Important notes about paying online:
- Before you pay online, review the fines and fees policies.
- Once you receive confirmation of your online payment, your library Banner hold will be lifted within one business day. If you need your library Banner hold lifted sooner, call 313-593-5559.
- The library will not release Banner holds on days

- The library accepts Discover, MasterCard, and Visa credit
cards.
Paying by Mail
Fines and fees may be paid by sending a check in
the mail:
- Checks should be made out to "The University
of Michigan - Dearborn".
- Please include the fine or fee notice with your
check or a note describing the purpose of the payment.
- Please include your 8-digit UMID number on the
check or note.

Fines for Non-Reserve Items
- Books - 25 cents/day.
- Periodicals (3 yrs and older) - $1.00/day.
- Recalled items - $15.00/day.
- ILL and MeLCat items - 25 cents/day for first 8 days
- increases to $5.00/day after 8 days overdue.
- There is a three day grace period on fines for books,
but after that, fines are retroactive, i.e., $1.00 on the
fourth day.
- Overdue materials may not be renewed online if fines
already equal $5.00 or more.
- Overdue materials may be renewed online, in person or
by phone, but patrons are still responsible for any fines.
(No grace period for this.)
- Lost item borrowed from this library - $90.00
- Lost item borrowed through ILL or MeLCat - $100.00
Fines for Reserve Items
- 2, 3, 4, and 24 hour reserve items - $1.00
per hour.
- 2, 3, and 7 day items - $5.00 per day.
- DO NOT return reserve materials to the drop box, give
them to a staff person at the Circulation Desk.
