Loan Periods

  • Loan periods vary by patron type and item format.
  • Renewals are not guaranteed. See Renewing Library Materials for more information.
  • All materials are subject to recalls.

Loan Periods for the UM-Dearborn Community

Loan Periods for Guests

UM-Dearborn Undergraduate student

  • Books - 3 weeks, with three renewals of 3 weeks each
  • Audiovisual items - 3 weeks, no renewals
  • Reserves - Loan periods vary, no renewals
  • Periodicals - 1 week for items 3 years or older, no renewals
  • MeLCat - 3 weeks, with one renewal of 3 weeks (AV loan periods vary)
  • Interlibrary Loan - Loan periods and renewals vary
  • Students receive library privileges only during semesters they are enrolled in classes.  Students who were enrolled in winter term classes receive guest borrowing privileges during the following spring/summer terms, if not enrolled.

UM-Dearborn Graduate student & CASL Honors student

  • Books - Term loan, with two renewals of one term each (items are subject to Recalls)
  • Audiovisual items - 3 weeks, no renewals
  • Reserves - Loan periods vary, no renewals
  • Periodicals - 1 week for items 3 years or older, no renewals
  • MeLCat - 3 weeks, with one renewal of 3 weeks (AV loan periods vary)
  • Interlibrary Loan - Loan periods and renewals vary
  • Students receive library privileges only during semesters they are enrolled in classes.  Students who were enrolled in winter term classes receive guest borrowing privileges during the following spring/summer terms, if not enrolled.

UM-Dearborn Staff

  • Audiovisual items - 3 weeks, no renewals
  • Reserves - Loan periods vary, no renewals
  • Periodicals - 1 week for items 3 years or older, no renewals
  • MeLCat - 3 weeks, with one renewal of 3 weeks (AV loan periods vary)
  • Interlibrary Loan - Loan periods and renewals vary
  • Retired staff receive privileges listed above, but not remote access to library databases. MI residents can use the Michigan eLibrary instead.

Guest card holders

  • Fee: $60/year, $30/year if age 65 or older
  • Maximum three items.
  • Books - 3 weeks, with one 3-week renewal
  • Audiovisual items - 3 weeks, no renewals
  • Not eligible to borrow other formats - more information about Guest cards.
  • In-library access only for library databases. For remote access, MI residents can use the Michigan eLibrary.

Reciprocal/Infopass users

MeLCat Visiting Patron

  • Must show home library card and photo ID
  • Books - 3 weeks, with one 3-week renewal
  • Audiovisual items - 1 week, no renewals
  • Not eligible to borrow other formats
  • Check list of participating libraries to learn which libraries participate in this program.
  • In-library access only for library databases. For remote access, MI residents can use the Michigan eLibrary.
