Research Education

The Mardigian Library's Research Education program can play an important role in student intellectual growth. Learning to use library resources effectively enables students to become critical thinkers and life-long learners.

The librarians at the Mardigian Library are committed to offering a comprehensive Research Education program that introduces students to a wide variety of sources of information and the research strategies that they need for specific course assignments.

Levels of Research Education

Different levels of research education can meet the needs of all students. Even if some of your students have done research before, repeated exposure to information literacy concepts can build skills they will use for a lifetime.

Basic Instruction

  • Demonstrations and hands on experience with the library catalog
  • Introduction to research databases
  • A library tour
  • Practical application assignments

Course Related Instruction

  • Instructors assign research projects throughout the semester
  • A librarian and the instructor plan classroom session
  • A librarian will explain specialized materials needed for assignments
  • Research Guides are distributed during classroom session
