The town of Sóller is close to the Tramuntana Mountains near the Northwest coast of Mallorca. The range is formed of folded and thrusted limestones with some rising over 1000 meters high. Kozlow traveled to Mallorca and captured the peaks on a misty day with only the silhouettes of mountains and forests visible. The early or remaining light of day gives a reddish cast to the upper parts of the mountains while the lower hills are nearly lost in shadows. Kozlow uses broad, but controlled swaths of paint that are layered onto the surface. His handling encourages the viewer to be still and to contemplate the beauty of this view of the mountains.
