Laura Cotton

Art Curator and Gallery Manager

About Me

I manage the Stamelos Gallery Center which includes curating and installing a continually rotating schedule of exhibitions and coordinating a wide variety of gallery events and educational programs. I am also responsible for the care, development, interpretation and display of the UM-Dearborn permanent art collection which consists of approximately 4,000 treasured works.

Gallery exhibitions feature artworks from the permanent collection and items on loan from other institutions, as well as current work from renowned regional and national artists. I work closely with university faculty to create gallery programming, and to build the collection in a manner, that best supports the curriculum and the mission of the university. In addition, I coordinate a gallery student internship program and teach museum studies courses. I also manage the art and art history collections for the library.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art Administration from Whitworth College, Spokane, WA in 1997 and my Master of Arts degree in Museology from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA in 2004. I have over 22 years of museum experience, and I have held curatorial positions at the Corning Museum of Glass, the Adirondack Museum, Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art and the Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation before coming to Michigan.
