What you can get through Interlibrary Loan

The ILL service can borrow or obtain:

  • Books or conference proceedings that our library does not own.
  • Articles from a specific journal that we do not own.
Please note that copyright guidelines and limits will be followed by the Interlibrary Loan Office.
  • Dissertations - if possible. You may purchase and download a copy from ProQuest's Dissertations & Theses.
  • Audiovisual items such as videos/DVDs and other audiovisual materials - if possible.

Undergraduate Students:

  • For fast delivery, request books from MeLCat.
  • Use ILLiad to request materials from UM-Ann Arbor and/or free lenders.

Faculty, Graduate Students, and CASL Honors Students:

  • For fast delivery, request books from MeLCat.
  • Use ILLiad to request materials. We will obtain articles and books from lenders worldwide.

We cannot borrow:

  • Recreational materials via ILL. Use MeLCat instead.
  • Textbooks for a class.
  • Books that this library owns, unless they are missing.
  • Books that are checked out from this library. If the book is checked out we will place a hold on our copy for you or you may request a copy from MelCat.
  • An entire volume of a journal - instead you can get a copy of a specific article.
  • Items to be put on Reserve in our library.
  • Most libraries will not lend audiovisual items, reference books, reserve books, rare or valuable materials such as manuscripts which are difficult to replace, or material in high demand at the lending library.
